Dr. Chew is currently an Associate Professor with the Department of Restorative Dentistry at the University of Malaya. She is heavily involved in the clinical teaching of all the major disciplines in restorative dentistry such as operative dentistry, endodontics and fixed prosthodontics at the undergraduate level. At the postgraduate level, she teaches advanced operative dentistry and treatment planning.
Dr. Chew is actively engaged in translational research where laboratory and clinical research complements each other. Her clinical research activities include the evaluation of erosive wear and its associated risk factors in the Malaysian population; a similar project in Cambodia, a collaborative work with King’s College London on salivary diagnostics for patients with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), clinical biofilm research and in vivo validation of OCT for measurement of erosion in clinical trial.
Her in vitro research focuses in the development and validation of in vivo diagnostic methodologies for early and advanced dental caries and advanced dentine erosion. She is also involved in biomaterials research such as the evaluation of amino acids, bioactive glass and laser sub-ablation for the treatment of dental caries and erosion.
